Day 19 - Recoup those calories

December 2 - El Chaltén, Argentina

We woke for sunrise, caught the first light on the towers, then headed back to cook breakfast and tear down camp.

We arrived back at El Chalten at about noon, dropped our bags at the hostel, then headed for lunch at Che Empenada – the panceta, cheese and fig was amazing.

We took a break - naps were had, and then walked to a chocoleteria recommended by a friend in BA.  The shop had and awesome vibe with timber framing and old school climbing references, photos, and gear on the walls.  From the room upstairs you could see Fitz Roy and enjoy chocolate - dream!  We enjoyed delicious alfajores with dulce de leche ice cream, sort of like an ice cream sandwich coated in a quality chocolate.  I also picked up some chocolate by the gram as a treat for later hikes - chocolate with orange, dulce de leche, and coconut.

We later ate dinner at a place called Ruca Mahuida - it was off the main road a ways and appeared like someone's house.   Evan and Scott had chorizo and olive pizza w/ a salad that came in a pita bowl, with sides of raw spices, fennel and other spices (unsure which?) and two tips of infused olive oil, pepper and garlic. I had some giant gnocchi like balls filled with spinach with a red sauce on top and a whole bowl of parmesan.   Everything was fantastic.

Still trying to catch up on calories, we stopped at the heladeria, Domo Blanco.  Scott and I got the medium size to make sure we could get two flavors, and it looked pretty tiny. Then the lady filled the cones basically three times as high as we could imagine.  I had tiramisu and dulce de leche.  It was some of the best ice cream we've had...maybe because we'd been eating camp food for days or maybe because it was just that good.
