Day 8 - Montevideo and modern dance

November 21, 2017 - Montevideo, Uruguay
(Evan)

Woke up and made breakfast- eggs scrambled and leftover rice and veggie mix from dinner.

Made a plan for the day which included trip to cathedral and theater.
Went for a run along Las Ramblas for 6k. We both got sun burned faces even though it didn't feel hot /sunny enough to get burnt.  Weather was perfect for running.
We explored a market near our apartment. Looked like maybe an old rail station? Lots of cool looking restaurants.
Walked to the cathedral. Very pretty. They had a separate special room for baptisms that was super cool.
Walked to a museum that chronicles the airline flight that crashed in the Andes, this is the same story as the movie Alive. We were going to go in, but they closed in 30 minutes after we got there so we skipped it.
Walked to the theater, the second largest theater in South America, Teatro Solis, and realized we were also too late for a tour. Dang it the run took too long!!! We decided to go to a show instead- contemporary dance production. Show started at 9 so we decided to go home take a nap then get dinner before.
On the walk home we found that the dinner place that our host suggested was actually going to be open!  I took a nap, then we headed there around 745 (earliest possible time for dinner in Uruguay, it seems!).  I had the beef with squash, Chelsea had a risotto with asparagus.  The meal started with a fresh rosemary bread.  Delicious.

The show was good, but the theater stole the show. There was a huge mural on the ceiling and a beautiful chandelier. It was very traditional, floor seating then five or six levels of private boxes. We were dead center on the floor. Maybe ten rows back. Good stuff.  The cool thing about modern dance is that it's weird in any language.

Walked home and packed. Sleeping by midnight.
