Day 56 - Running to waterfalls

January 10 - Pucon, Chile

(Evan)
Morning flipping of rooms.  I clogged the toilet and splashed poo water everywhere in the bathroom and basically had to nuke the thing to get it clean again.

(ok, I'm taking back over - Chelsea)
We put on our running shoes to visit a waterfall just outside of town, called Salto del Claro, approximately 16 km. The route consists of running to the edge of town, then gravel roads up and into the forest.  We got a little lost, taking a turn a little too soon, and then running up a giant hill only to find out we probably weren’t in the right place.  That was ok – it was a beautiful road.  We got back on track, and subtly followed another couple to ensure we didn’t get lost.  The waterfall is not well marked nor advertised, and when a local instructs you on how to get there, it consists of instructions like “take a left when you see a lot of cows”, and “when you see a barbed wire fence, go over it”.

The waterfall was in a on overgrown jungle like area, and we hiked down to the bottom of the falls on a steep, tree-rooted trail.  The falls were extremely tall, and absolutely beautiful.  We stayed for a bit, enjoying the view and the frigid cold water spray that would soak you if you got any closer.

The way home was a bit easier, as it was mostly downhill.  We got back and were pretty pooped from the heat.  We cleaned up and rested a bit, then headed out to dinner.  We enjoyed a delicious dinner out – pizza and an amazing savory crepe, and some of the best ice cream ever! (Café Luthier)
