Day 61 - This feels like vacation
January 15 - Menetue Thermas, Chile
It was our last day in Pucon and our last chance to use our voucher for the hot springs (thermas) that came with our volcano trip. Ok, ok, maybe the volcano tour wasn't so expensive, if we got a visit to the hot springs plus transport with it.
We took off in a van with a few others from the meeting point at 11 AM. I guess you can take a bus close and then walk a few kilometers to the entrance, but after the drive, we were thankful to have transport door to door! It was pretty much in the middle of nowhere (which was appreciated for a calm experience!)
We had a great day, and the quote of the day was from Evan “Wow, this really feels like vacation”, meaning we were a bit pampered. When you check-in, you get a blue swim cap with no explanation. We assumed it was not to aid your aerodynamics but to keep the pools hair-free....appreciated. We dropped our stuff in lockers then went to explore. The property was beautiful, lots of trees and green, and the building were built with timber, alongside big hills with a waterfall. We explored the indoor pools (there were three) and the outdoor pools (two). The outdoor pool below was our favorite as it was pretty quite, and there was a waterfall in the background. The other was closer to the bar/restaurant and thus crawling with kids who's parents were within eye-sight from the deck. They pools were warm by water from natural hot springs.
After a bit of soaking, we headed to grab a bit to eat at the restaurant. We had heard the restaurant was good and not expensive, so rather than our usual lunch-packing, we decided to indulge. Unfortunately, we wished we hadn't. The food was not good, except the bread and spread that they brought out at the beginning. I had what was advertised as a hearty salad and grilled veggies, which was actually a sad iceberg salad, topped with some veggies and canned mushrooms. Evan had a typical Chilean dish, Cazuela, which was extremely bland. (turns out, Cazuela is just pretty bland, so no harm no foul). So, we basically just ate a whole loaf of bread with a really delicious homemade spread of avocado, peppers, and garlic. After lunch, we did a bit more pool-hopping, then headed back on the shuttle. We arrived back in town at approximately 5 PM.

We stopped at the store to grab a few snacks for the bus, then went back to pack up our stuff. We said goodbye forever to our little room. We shared the rest of our wine with the host and ate the rest of our leftovers (rice and steak)
We left on the night bus to Valparaiso at 7:30 PM.
