Day 68 - Visa Prep

January 22 - Santiago, Chile

We ran through the parks along the river, stopping to check out a church and ending at a local bakery on the way home.  We walked in and were strolling along the glass case full of deliciousness and the guy at the counter offered us a free cookie.  They had my heart.  We both chose a baked good – myself a chocolate croissant and Evan a pizza-like flatbread that the guy warmed in the oven and both were gone before we made our few block walk home.

After freshening up and eating a hearty breakfast, we ran some errands- finding an ATM that worked with our card, changing money (back to USD....for Bolivian Visa), and printing Bolivian visa photos. We stopped for an empanada "snack" at a stand I'd been eyeing...the empanadas were so big they ruined our dinner.  We then headed to the Italian neighborhood, barrio italalia.  The area had lots of super interesting cafes and stores, that looked like nothing on the outside, but opened up to a courtyard on the backside.   There was also an entire street of antique shops, with furniture stacked outside of each one.  We wish we would have stumbled here hungry!  Lots of good looking food.

We scurried back to catch sunset on the roof top.  The building we were staying was 27 floors high, and above that was an open rooftop.  It was a little hard to find (see obscure door to the roof on the right). We were the only ones there!
Once the sun had fallen below the horizon, we headed to a recommended Vietnamese restaurant for dinner.  The place looked like a dump from the outside and we almost walked away.  I confused the server so much that it became a bit uncomfortable.  Evan's food was delicious, I had a pho that was ok.
