Day 48 - Bus day (you can probably skip reading about it)

January 2 - Somewhere between Bariloche, Argentina and Pucon, Chile

We rode a bus from 10 AM until 7 PM.  It was really exciting.  The bus played four movies, Men in Black (in Spanish voice over, of course), Men in Black 2, Taken, followed by, you guess it, Taken 2.

Since there was no way to charge devices and the bus route was super windy, inducing motion sickness if too much reading, I did watch some of the movies when my ebook reading died - for Spanish practice, of course.

Oh yea, in preparation for this bus ride, we had gone above and grabbing some sandwiches and snacks to survive the ride.  Our last seven hour bus ride we were stuck assuming there would be food or a minimarket along the way, and being forced to live off some packaged cookies  and the fake orange juice they hand out for the whole ride.  Sandwich packing was a great idea UNTIL the Chilean border.  We knew the border was the most strict, but thought - who cares about sandwiches?
Chileans care.

At the border, we all got out and laid out our bags, then they bring a dog through to give all of the bags a sniff.  The dog didn't care about any of the bags, except mine, which he went back to repeatedly, to the giggles of all the passengers!  My bag then got set aside for "questioning".  Luckily, we had claimed our "contraband" on the custom form, so after we got our passports stamped, I talked to the guy (approximately 16 years old) that had our bag, and after a brief lecture about keeping Chile safe, he let us eat our sandwiches right there.  We both scarfed one sandwich, and due to the large amount of white bread, could not eat anymore.  We donated the third to the customs man.  Although, looking back, the dog would have enjoyed it more.

We arrived in Pucon and found the hostel.  We were starting our first "workaway" here, meaning trading some hours of work for a free place to stay and food and "cultural experience".  More to come on how that goes...

We got some groceries and whipped up a quick stir fry with real soy sauce for dinner :)
