Day 71 - Wine and Picnics

January 25 - Santa Cruz, Chile

Woke up and went for a run around the campground.
Packed up camp and headed towards bed and breakfast near Santa Cruz.  On the way we stopped at a mirador for a waterfall called La Novia.  I got a kick out of the Danger sign...

Made it to Santa Cruz around noon. We were too early to get our room, but we checked in and had a "welcome" coffee, a cortado on the terrace.  We had "splurged" for a nice place in wine country, and while I found the place random and cluttered, Chelsea found it quaint and awesome.  We then headed towards MontGras winery for tasting and picnic.

Tasting was great. Three wines paired with food to show the relationship. Sauvignon Blanc paired with tomato salsa. Carmenere paired with prune wrapped in bacon. Cabernet Sauvignon paired with chorizo sausage. Amazing wine and the dude that guided the tasting was fun. Listened to Spanish explanations!  The other three people in the tasting were all Chilean, but spoke some English.
Picnic in the lawn/garden in front of the vines. Bottle of premium carmenere. Picnic included bottle opener, double hinged! For us to keep! Also included fresh fruit, nuts, little slider sandwiches, cheese and deli meats, some empanadas.

Listened to music, played cribbage, laughed, and just had an amazing time - we were the only people there - we felt welcome to hang out as long as we wanted, and took full advantage.
Headed back to bnb around 4pm. Vegged out and took showers before heading to dinner at Italian restaurant in town. Shared a salad. Chelsea had house made ravioli and Evan had house made lasagna Bolognese. Both were great.
Went back to bnb and crashed after long day.
